If you recently bought canned tuna from Trader Joe’s, Heb, Costco or Walmart, you may want to throw it away.
Indeed, a manufacturer of canned tuna products recently published a recall at the country level of its products in relation to a design concern which could potentially cause botulism.
Tri-Union Seafoods launched the recall on February 7, according to a press release from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall has an impact on canned tuna products sold under the brand names Genova, Van Camp, Heb and Trader Joe.
The brands of the products recalled, as well as the states and the stores in which they were sold, are listed below:

The manufacturer said the recall was “out of prudence” after being alerted to a defect in his cans.
“This voluntary recall is out of caution following the notification of our supplier that the” Easy Open “traction tab can cover on limited products has encountered a manufacturing defect which can compromise the integrity of the product seal ( In particular in time), causing to flee, or worse, being contaminated by the Clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning “, detailed the press release.
“Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not seem or feels spoiled.”

According to centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), botulism can cause difficulty breathing, muscle paralysis and – in the most serious cases – death.
“When people eat these foods [contaminated with Clostridium botulinum]They can become seriously sick, or even die, if they do not quickly obtain appropriate medical treatment, “notes the CDC website.
Sea fruits Trion Union have advised consumers to immediately consult a doctor if they feel bad after eating one of the affected products – although no case has been reported so far.
