It turns out that Roborock isn’t the only company that showed off a robot vacuum with a mechanical arm at CES 2025. Rival company Dreame, which revealed its stair-climbing robot vacuum earlier in the week, is working also on a robot vacuum cleaner equipped with a mechanical arm. arm to pick up objects.
The device is still a prototype, according to the company, but the as-yet-unnamed robot vacuum was on full display at the Dreame booth at CES. Considering this is still a prototype, the actual arm looked much more substantial than that of Roborock’s Saros Z70. It was much thicker and had a larger “claw” that seemed to be able to pick up slightly heavier objects. (Roborock claims its vacuum can pick up objects weighing up to 300 grams.)
Unfortunately, Dreame didn’t show that he was grabbing anything, but I could see the arm extend and retract several times. It appeared to be on a similar device to the X50, as the prototype vacuum also balanced on “legs”, much like Dreame’s stair-stepped
A Dreame representative at the booth told me that the company had been working on the prototype for some time, but had decided to accelerate its vacuum plans at CES. After a quick glance, I knew exactly what he was referring to: Dreame’s booth is located directly across from Roborock, which had a massive replica of its Saros Z70 arm on top of its booth.
Maybe next year we’ll see the two robot vacuums arm wrestling.
