CNET got a sneak peek at some of the biggest PC product announcements at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.
CES is here and Dell, Lenovo, Asus and HP all made announcements at the Big Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but before the show we got a preview in New York of their laptops and desktops arriving in 2025, and that includes their gaming brands. So let’s take a look at what’s in store for them next. Before we dive in, keep in mind that we saw all of this before the CES launch. So there’s a good chance these PC makers and others will make announcements at the show that we just haven’t seen. Also, none of these are in-depth reviews and pricing and availability weren’t concrete, but we wanted to give you a glimpse of what’s coming this year. So I’ll just start with Dell, and oddly enough the biggest announcement isn’t a product but a name change. Dell abandons the names of its PC ranges. Like XPS Insperon, Latitude and Precision, all for simple and straightforward names, Dell for consumer models, Dell Pro for business productivity and Dell Pro Max for high performance commercial systems and workstations. And among these there are plus and premium models. So, for example, if you’re familiar with Dell’s high-end XPS line, a 14-inch laptop in that line will now be called the Dell 14 Premium. You can extrapolate. From there, Dell announced new Pro and Pro Max business laptops as well as some updated Insperons, now simply called Dell or Dell Plus, and these will appear over the next few months. On the Alienware side, it’s a little more exciting. It’s also changing its PC name, returning to the Area 51 brand with a new full-size tower with the latest Nvidia graphics and up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285. KCPU and 16- and 18-inch laptops and again , these will have the latest Nvidia graphics. and up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 275 HX processor. Look for them to launch during the first quarter. Moving on to Lenovo, for the most part the IT announcements are simple refreshes. For example, Lenovo’s dual-screen laptop, the Yoga Book 9 I, now has larger 14-inch OLED displays, up from 13.3-inch, a more robust stand, and the latest Intel Core Ultra processor. 7. The premium Yoga 9 I 2 and 1 also gets a CPU refresh and it’s an Aura edition, which basically means it’s an AIPC and has more software intelligent and access to premium support. Then there’s the new Yoga Slim 9 I, a premium 14-inch laptop with a dazzling new glass finish on the lid and like the other two. Latest Ultra Core Chips. Lenovo also announced 4 new tablets, starting with a general purpose 10-inch Lenovo Tab. Then there’s the premium 12.7-inch Idea Tab Pro which gives you a more premium entertainment and productivity experience, and that alongside the 12.7-inch Yoga Tab Plus, more creative. Rounding out the tablets is the Legion Tab, an 8.8-inch tablet with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip., 12 GB of memory, 256 GB of storage, all built around an 8.8-inch screen, 2.5k with a 165Hz refresh rate. There’s also a new Legion gaming laptop, the Legion Pro 7i, a 16-incher with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9, graphics NextGen Nvidia and quite nice lighting around the rear air vents at the front. Next up is HP and some new AI PCs for consumers and. In this video, we’re just going to focus on consumer PCs, like the HP Omni Studio X all-in-one desktop and the new Omni desktop towers. HP has made excellent all-in-ones in the past and this OmniStudio X seems to want to continue that momentum. It comes in 27- and 31.5-inch sizes, and features Intel Core ultraprocessors, up to 32GB of memory, and Intel Art graphics. The new omni office towers feature a beautiful wood-like finish on the front, so they look a little more like furniture and offer plenty of configuration options, including discrete and video graphics. For gaming, there is the new Oman Max 16 laptop and it is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 or Intel Core Ultra 9275 HX processor. NextGen video graphics, 64 GB of memory and 2 terabytes of storage. There are 3 display options including a 2.5K OLED with a variable refresh rate of 48 to 240 Hz. HP also introduced a compact 16L Oman gaming tower with up to Intel or AMD CPUs and GPUs. an AMD Radeon RX 7600 or. Nvidia RTX 4060 TI. Finally, let’s take a look at what Aus brought. These were mainly many Vivo books in a wide range of configurations with 14- and 16-inch Intel, AMD and Q Qualcomm processors and a mix of plastic or plastic and metal. Bodies. What’s available varies by region, but if you’re looking for a mid-range AIPC from ASU, you’ll have plenty of options this year. The most exciting mainstream laptop announcement from them is the Zenbook A14, a 14-inch OLED co-driver plus PC that weighs less than 1kg and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon of aluminum, a metal with a smooth ceramic-like finish. On the ROG side, Asus is essentially refreshing its major ranges, the Zephyrus, strix and strict scar, with new processors, graphics and cooling, as well as updated lighting. The Strix and Strict models will be available in 16- and 18-inch sizes, will have Intel C. NextGen GPUs in Nvidia GPUs and better cooling. In fact, everything is better cooled. The Zephyrus will be available in 14- and 16-inch models and will be co-driven with PCs running the latest AMD chips with Nvidia graphics. It’s joined by a new Thunderbolt XG mobile external GPU with NextGen Nvidia graphics. Topping it off is an Intel-based gaming desktop designed and built by Republic of Gamers, the G700. Well, nothing really seems like a best in show to me at the moment, there are plenty of interesting options, and to me Aus seems to have the strongest hand in this game at the moment.
