At least 43 other people were hospitalized, including 32 in intensive care, Turkish officials said. Since the start of the new year, a total of 34 people have died from contraband alcohol. Alcohol contaminated with methanol is believed to be the cause.

There was no immediate comment from Turkey’s health ministry.
