Mohamed Salah has spoken of his pride after becoming the first Liverpool player to score 50 goals in European competition in their 2-1 win over Lille.
Egyptian striker Salah scored his 50th game in the first half for the Reds, who won thanks to Harvey Elliott’s deflected winner after Jonathan David had equalized for the visitors, reduced to 10 men.
Salah told Amazon Prime: ‘I hope I’m not the last [to reach 50 goals]. I wasn’t focused on the results before the match.
“It’s something I’m very happy and proud of, especially because we won the game, that’s the most important thing.”
In addition to Salah’s historic goal, his 23rd of the season in all competitions, the Reds celebrated their qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League by winning their seventh game in seven ahead of the final round next week.
On his fine first-half finish, Salah added: “We got the ball back and Curtis [Jones] In the end, I played the ball very well and managed to score.
“Not out of control but they went to counter-attack and managed to score. The clean sheet is very important for us and our back line.

Substitute Elliott was the hero of the night after his long-range strike found the bottom corner via a deflection and Salah was delighted to see the youngster make an impact after a series of difficult injuries.
Salah said of his teammate: “He got injured at the start of the season and it was difficult for him. I’m always there for him, he’s a great boy.
“When you want to win the biggest tournaments, you need a great team.”
Elliott: I’m not leaving
Elliott was linked with leaving Anfield in search of first-team football and decided to use a pointed celebration which suggested he was drowning out the noise.
The midfielder said: “To be honest, it’s pretty clear: I’m not leaving. This is my team and my club. I’m a big fan and we’re in a great position so far this season.
“I haven’t actually seen the cat, but my friends have messaged me and called me about several things.
“It will always happen in January, especially after being out for a long time and not playing as much as I would like, but that’s football.”
Of his winning moment, Elliott added: “It’s hard to put into words. All my life I have dreamed of playing Champions League football, not only for my childhood club, but to play here at Anfield in front of our fans and especially to score is a moment that pinches me.
David: Liverpool are the best team in the world
Lille striker David was proud of his side’s efforts at Anfield, but says they are currently the best team in the world.
The Canadian forward said: “Very good team. I think they could be the best team in the world right now.
“Tonight is one more goal [for me]. I’m happy we managed to score but we didn’t manage to get the three points.
