The agreement for Amougou, an International France Youth of 19, was a surprise for many when the news of the move broke out on Monday afternoon. The graduate of the Academy of Saint-Etienne was a regular at the high-level team at the start of the season after having made his debut in the second division the last mandate, but was relegated to the role of replacement since October.
Amougou sat in the 4-1 defeat of Saint-Etienne against Lille on Saturday perhaps entirely with this imminent decision at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea has not confirmed the adolescent transfer fees, but several points of sale indicate that it is in the region of 15 million euros (12.4 million pounds sterling) – representing the first permanent acquisition of the winter window club. The blues, however, communicated according to which Amougou will begin to train with the team of the first team and will not head to the Sister Strasbourg club, as had been supposed.
“I am very happy,” said Amougou at Club Channels. “It is an honor for me to sign such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.”
It remains to be seen if the International France under 19 can enter a midfielder with two players who cost more than 100 million pounds sterling as well as Cole Palmer.
The blues may not be added as many names as may be spent after being linked to Alejandro Garnacho for a large part of the window, but they sanctioned the departures of Cesare Casadei and Renato Veiga to the duo based in Turin of Torino and Juventus, respectively. These outings open on the sidelines of the club team, where players have regular playing time in the Europa conference league and national cup competitions.
Amougou needs senior minutes in the competition he can get them. The talented teenager recorded less than 1,000 for Saint-Etienne throughout his career. For comparison, Wesley Fofana – another product from the French club academy – has been raised more match time this season only despite serious injury problems.
