A Guatemalan man previously expelled, who was also found guilty of having committed crimes in the United States, was arrested in New York over the weekend, the United States of immigration and customs said.
Yoni Wilfredo Gregorio Ortiz, 44, was arrested Sunday by agents of the New York ice and dismissal law on Sunday in the village of Airmont in the county of Rockland.
At the time of his arrest, he had an unanswered mandate for drunk driving.

Gregorio Ortiz was arrested for the first time by American border patrol agents on December 10, 2012, for illegally entered the United States, according to Ice. He was treated for an accelerated dismissal the next day and was sent back to Guatemala on January 10, 2023.
He returned to the United States illegally on an unknown date without inspection by an immigration official.
“Not only has Gregorio an outrage for the immigration laws of our country, as his illegal return proved after being previously removed, but he also showed a complete contempt for our criminal laws,” said the director of the New York Ice Ero City, William Joyce. “Ice New York City will continue to prioritize public security by stopping and removing illegal foreign offenders from our communities.”

Gregorio Ortiz was arrested for the first time by American agents of the border patrol on December 10, 2012, for illegal entry, according to Ice. We don’t know when he returned to the United States (Reuters, file)
During his return to the United States, Gregorio Ortiz was accused of assault in the third degree and was found guilty of this crime on September 1, 2022 by the village court of Spring Valley.
He was then found guilty by a Rockland county court for acting so as to injure a child and criminal mischief on June 3, 2024.
Gregorio Ortiz is owned by Ice at Orange County prison in Goshen, New York.

Hundreds of illegal foreigners were arrested across the country during the month of February, although this number is down compared to last month when the ice led hundreds, sometimes thousands, per day, according to data from the Ministry of Internal Security.
