A couple launched their Aboriginal doll company The Good Doll on a recent episode of Shark Tank India Season 4. The founders of the company – Suhas and Sunita – asked for an investment of 50 Lakh for 5% equity.
During the field, the couple mentioned having raised 40 Lakh of the founder and CEO of Zerodha, Nithin Kamath. They also mentioned that they had decided to leave their corporate jobs, leave their capitalist lifestyles and move to the mountains.
The couple even claimed to have left their families, their friends and their worldly goods and built their new house with their own hands. They said they had the idea of starting the doll company by interacting with local communities.
Despite their high objective of empowering 20,000 rural women by producing inclusive and sustainable dolls, their number was not at all encouraging.
Suhas and Sunita told the “sharks” that they provided for sales of around 1.5 crores this year. They also said that it was the first time in four years of exploitation that they crossed the 1 ₹ crores mark.
In addition, they admitted that their customers are not interested in dark skin or male dolls. They also said that they had not invested anything in marketing or on their website, because of which they do not have much online presence.
After that, the director general of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Namita Thapar, said that they could consider the narration as a marketing tool which, however, took time.
Thapar refused to make an offer saying: “It is not an investable company, simply because the scale is too small and what you ask is too high. As an investor, it is too early in this moment.” After that, Aman Gupta also fell back because he thought it was not a business at all.
“You can get founding subsidies, but I cannot invest and earn this business money as” shark “.” Vineeta Singh, on the other hand, told the founders that they simply had too much on their plate.
She explained that it is difficult to carry out the sustainability, inclusiveness and empowerment of women together. Singh also said that they may not be able to empower 20,000 women if they are unable to scale up online due to the appearance of dolls.
As he liked their history, Kunal Bahl refused to invest in the business. Bahl, however, said he was ready to help them. Thus, the company supported by Nithin Kamath did not get anything on Shark Tank India season 4.
