Google adds Auacast Support as part of an Android update announced Thursday, which will allow anyone who uses hearing aids to connect directly to Audio streams in public places.
Auracast is a Bluetooth functionality that allows sites to create a distribution network in which hearing aids can operate. This can be particularly useful in noisy environments such as concerts or stations, where it can be difficult to decipher the audio from the speakers.
The update allows Android phones to link audio-compatible compatible hearing aids from companies like Starkey and GN Audition to these audio broadcasts.
To use Auracast, hearing aid must be twinned with a Samsung Galaxy device running a User Interface 7 and Android 15, or a Pixel 9 device running Android 16 BETA. Then connect to an Auracast program from a public site or a TV streamer. To do this, access the Bluetooth settings of your phone or, if you are on a Pixel 9 device, you can connect to the broadcasts by scanning a QR code.
