It was interesting to see the reaction to the news that the move of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid now seems certain.
There have been a lot of Liverpool fans, certainly on social networks anyway, but I’m not sure to see or hear fans of the Liverpool match.
I think that basically, they will understand Trent’s decision, even if it will hurt them to see him go, especially on a free.
He gave so many services to this club and he won the lot with them. He went through the ranks, so did not cost them anything in terms of transfer fees and justified all the wages they paid him with his performance throughout his stay in Anfield.
Liverpool fans should not want Trent Alexander-Arnold for this huge opportunity
So why want him to move to Madrid now? He achieved everything he ever dreamed of Liverpool and now he wants to try something new – and in the biggest club in the world. You just don’t have this opportunity every day.
I know that some fans of Liverpool are annoyed that they do not receive real money, which would allow the club to reinvest in its replacement, but it is just the way of the world now.
If he had signed a new contract, he could never have signed for Madrid. As I said, the opportunity for a move like this simply does not come every day.
This is obviously a bit of a warning for Arsenal, with Madrid sniffing around William Saliba while he is preparing to enter the last two years of his contract.
We know that they like to say to their objectives to let their current offers flow so that they can bring them to a free arsenal and must be aware of this with regard to saliba.
But for now, it’s a way and for Liverpool, they will have to move on without Alexander-Arnold.
It will have an impact on them. Just a look at the creative figures they will miss next season without him in the side shows that he will leave behind a big void that will have to fill.
Jeremie Frimpong was mentioned as a possible replacement and that, on paper, looks like a good fit. He showed during his stay with Bayer Leverkusen what a threat he is at the bottom right.
So, as disappointing as it will be for Liverpool to see Alexander-Arnold leave, things are still advancing and they will undoubtedly strengthen wisely. They have also already Conner Bradley, don’t forget, who has shown what talent he can be.
