Arsenal will seek to sign a new high -level striker this summer, with the new sports director Andrea Berta responsible for achieving this goal. The club’s main target in the position seems to have changed since its arrival, but there could now be complications that slip into the transfer window.
For several months, Arsenal was determined to take a step at Alexander Isak, but Berta’s arrival seems to have paid cold water on this pursuit – and also the fact that Newcastle does not intend to sell, or even negotiate with interested clubs.
Instead, Arsenal turned their attention to Viktor Gyokerres, which Berta identified as a priority target. But it seems that the feeling of striker Sporting CP is not mutual.
Viktor Gyokerres wants to join Real Madrid this summer
According to Defensa Central (via Team), Gyokerres would be very interested in a summer move to Real Madrid. It is claimed that the Swedish striker told his representatives to speak with the Liga giants in order to assess if they were interested in bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid has already Kylian Mbappe on their books, so it would be a surprise to continue an agreement for Gyokerres. And reports have also suggested that they are considering other options to improve their team in summer, one of which is another Arsenal target in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
It is unlikely that Arsenal was affected by the alleged interest of Gyokerres for a move to Real Madrid, and they will surely continue with the intention of having him as a new starting striker. And although reigning European champions are probably not in competition, they are likely to be challenged by Chelsea and Man United.
