Emma Raducanu withdrew from the representation of Great Britain during the qualifications of the Billie Jean King Cup next week after her impressive race towards the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
Raducanu had to go to the Netherlands with links planned against the Dutch and Germany from April 10 to 12, but the world No. 48 has chosen to undertake a training block.
She organized her best race since he won the US Open in 2021 by reaching the last eight in Miami before losing against the possible finalist Jessica Pegula.
British No. 2 was also to join Elina Svitolina and Sofia Kenin for the Clay-Court WTA 250 in Rouen on April 14, but after a few months taxed with only a week of tournaments, she will take the opportunity to train with an uninterrupted return date.
Raducanu was appointed to the team of five players by the captain of the Anne Keothavong team alongside Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Harriet Dart and Olivia Nicholls for the Billie Jean King Cup. However, it has been revealed that she will not participate after all.
“I recognize that it was a difficult decision for Emma. Of course, you always miss a player of his quality in the team, we have seen what she can do in the past representing her country, but I have the greatest belief in the players who travel next week and will confirm a fifth player in good time,” said skipper Keothavong.
Great Britain will participate in a new qualification format around, with the upper country heading to the final later this year.
The two remaining teams will have to compete in the play-offs to have the chance to return to qualifications in 2026.
Raducanu was to go to Spain for the Madrid Big 1000 open to the Caja Magica from April 22 to May 4, but it is not clear if it will participate in the tournament before the French Open which begins on Sunday May 25.
