Former Barcelona striker, Christoph Dugarry, said that Real Madrid “touched the bottom” with their driving before and during their defeat of Copa del Rey this weekend.
The European champions lost 3-2 against Barça in overtime – Jules Kounde allowed a late winner for the Catalans – but that only told half the story of a controversial weekend.
Madrid rekindled their campaign against the referees before the match, then opposed their right to an answer while, on the field, they sent three players because the defeat was accompanied by shame.
Dugarry requests an action against Madrid
And Dugarry, who played for Barça in a career that has also seen spells with Bordeaux, AC Milan and Marseille as well as 55 appearances for France, believes that strong measures must be taken.
He told Rothen ignite Show: “I always wonder how the biggest club in the world can carry out such a discredit campaign against the referee before a match. What example does Real Madrid give young people from the world?
“They must be punished. If they don’t, it will be a disaster for football. It will not be surprising to see young people moving away from the most popular sport in the world because of what leaders do, using methods of violence.
“They trampled on football. Real Madrid has hit the bottom. “

A controversy weekend
