Sushazing Sareen, expert in strategic business and main member of the Research Foundation on the Observer (ORF), expressed its frustration on Thursday with regard to the commentary of the Minister of Trade, Piyush Goyal, on the economic rise of China.
While speaking in the India Global Forum in Mumbai, the Minister of the Union said that the economic rise of China was supported by unfair commercial practices, hidden subsidies and distorted work models.
Goyal also accused the World Trade Organization (WTO) of ignoring the dark side of the Economic Ascension of Beijing. Responding to this, Sareen said that even if he doesn’t like Chinese people because of their intimidation tactics and their seizure of land.
“I do not particularly like the Chinese because of their intimidation and their seizure of land. But to be fair to China, they did what they had to do to become the second economy and the world factory,” he wrote in an article on X (formerly Twitter).
Going forward, he deplored the fact that India does not have the brain and leadership to achieve what China has done. “How I would have liked that we have the brain and leadership to make the same cradle rather than constant and whining that we hear why we did not do and why the Chinese have.”
In addition to that, the strategic business expert also asked Piysu Goyal a few questions. “What prevented us from retorting engineering, stealing IP, etc., then offering something as good if not better than the original? What prevented us from producing goods and unrealistic prices like the Chinese?”
Meanwhile, Goyal said that the rise of China was at the cost of economies and the manufacturing ecosystem of several nations, including India. “The current state of play, in a way, is a highlight of almost three decades of this attack on several economies.”
Not only has Goyal accumulated the WTO to divert the eyes from shady commercial practices adopted by China, but he also alleged that world leaders were too optimistic about the intentions of Beijing.
“Many parts of the world were convinced that China would reform – would transform its processes, bring transparency in its economy and work in fair terms in the world economy.” The Minister of the Union said that instead, China has used predatory prices, opaque grant structures and labor standards that led to the absence of a fair playground.
