Two best aids from the mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, were killed during an attack in a central part of the capital, Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum said on Tuesday.
Ximena Guzmán, the private secretary of the mayor, and José Muñoz, adviser to Brugada, were killed at an intersection in the Benito Juarez borough in Mexico City, confirmed Sheinbaum, visibly upset by reading a statement during her daily conference.
“There will be no impunity, officials will be detained and will have to face justice,” she said.
Brugada also published the declaration on X, but did not share if it was the planned objective.
The authorities said that the shooting had been carried out by armed men on a motorcycle around 7:30 am local time, and that they are now examining images of surveillance cameras to identify the attackers and determine a reason.
