A key republican who puts pressure for a higher ceiling for state and local tax deductions sought to revive the idea of increasing the highest rate so that employees help pay the tax reductions by President Donald Trump – and to advance legislation to stand.
“The only big invoice has blocked – and she needs wind in her sails,” said New York Lalota representativeposterSaturday on X. “Allowing the highest tax rate to expire, from 37% to 39.6% for people earning more than $ 609,350 and married couples earning more than $ 731,200 – breathe $ 300 billion new life in the effort.”
Lalota and other New York Republicans have promised to block the legislation on the signing of Trump, unless he understands a much more generous ceiling for the deduction of salt. At the same time, the Conservatives have promised to block the bill if he has no higher expense reductions, the two parties reflecting fears that the fee of the party’s tax and signing expenditure aggravates the budget deficit.
Some conservatives also said they were open to a millionaire tax to reduce the deficit.
Lalota suggested that the income generated by higher taxes on the rich could solve the salt problem and protect programs like Medicaid and food coupons “without increasing the taxes on the middle class”.
Lalota’s land comes after the Conservatives landed an effort to advance the tax and expenditure package of several billion dollars to the Chamber’s Budget Committee, complaining that the bill would lead to an outbreak of deficits. The committee should come back for another vote on Sunday at 10 p.m., negotiators working all weekend to try to conclude an agreement.
Many other Republicans, including President Mike Johnson, have opposed the increase in the tax rate, which goes against the decades of Orthodoxy of the Party. Trump himself floated by increasing the highest rate for the millionaires, then retired somewhat, advising the congress against him, but saying that he would “go well” if they did.
Maryland’s Andy Harris representative, president of the Caucus Conservative Freedom Caucus, also launched the idea.
The highest rate was set at 39.6% under the Democratic presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, but Trump’s law in 2017 reduced it to 37%.
