Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany suggested that he did not play a last game in the last match at the Charlotte Bank of America Stadium is “perhaps a positive” after his team slipped to a defeat against Benfica which cost them first place in group C during the 2025 club World Cup.
The Portuguese team has retained a torrent of second half pressure from Bayern to exceed the defending German champions through the first strike by Andreas Schjelderup in their closing stadium game.
“I must be honest – with the field and the heat, I feared that it was not as fluidicity as normally,” Kompany told Dazn after supervised a first defeat in 10 games.
“This first breath – this first time that you have faced the heat – sometimes it’s like that. It would not be the first time.”

Bayern Munich “ price paid ” against Benfica
With Bayern behind the 13th minute strike from Norway de Norway Schjelderup, Kompany sent the trio attacker Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich at halftime.
Midfielder Kimmich was denied a long-term equalizer because Kane was offside, and Konrad Laimer hit the distant post after collecting Thomas Muller’s pass inside the box on the right.
The Eagles goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin, was in an inspired form, including a safeguard at close range of Aleksandar Pavlovic and a late stop to thwart Leroy Sane in one after Kane played a pass in the defense.
“I was still confident for the second half,” said Kompany. “We created so much in the second half and played very well.
“We had lines in mind with the goalkeeper and other chances. If you don’t take them, you end up paying the price. ”

2025 World Cup World Cup: Bayern vs Flamengo
While Benfica will return to Charlotte for his last match, Bayern will face the Brazilian leaders Flamengo in Florida on Sunday (9:00 p.m. BST).
“It was going to be Flamengo or Chelsea, so it was going to be difficult,” said Kompany. “We will not take anything negative in this match.
“Perhaps a positive is that we will no longer play Charlotte. We were dominant, we have created more likely. We have not won and we cannot afford that it happens, but we can always take a lot of momentum in the next game.”
Harry Kane: substitution of Bayern “the plan”
Kompany was asked about the introduction of Kane – the top scorer last season – at halftime, the captain of England using an ice bucket to cope with heat.
“It was the plan,” replied Kompany, whose team beat Auckland City 10-0 and Boca Juniors 2-1 in their first two games.
“I prefer to finish hard because I knew that the game could start slowly. We absolutely finished hard, but I can not take anything from this game other than performance in the second period, because we did not get the result.”
