We have been testing mattresses, bedding and sleep accessories for years – a few members have been doing it for eight years already. We believe that our team took place and slept on 350 different mattresses of dozens of brands, ranging from Bigwigs as Seta And Tempur-Pedic to niche players like Sonu and Airweave.
Our bed testers have variable weights and types, heights, sexes and sleep preferences, which allows us to provide a global assessment of each mattress from a multitude of points of view. Many mattresses are tested for long periods, ranging from a month or two to five years.
Cnet’s sleep team constantly brings the mattresses to the house for long -term criticism, such as our series of 30 -night mattresses in couple.
We test gel mattresses as we would have any other bed, with a narrower concentration on the temperature. When a new mattress arrives in our test installation, it undergoes a strategic set of practical tests. We analyze the characteristics such as firmness, sensation, temperature regulation, movement isolation, on -board support and other unique characteristics that the mattress can have.
Firmness
In the mattress industry, firmness is digitally evaluated on a scale of 1 (the sweetest) at 10 (the firmest). We also use a simple terminology as “sweet” or “average” to describe it. Our team assesses and assesses the firmness of each bed, which allows us to make solid recommendations on the sleep position and the type of body, it is the best. After having subjectively analyzed firmness, we left our unique mattress in its kind to make its thing and provide us with a goal of firmness.
Feel
We also subjectively review the feeling of each mattress, which is distinct from firmness. Does the bed feel bouncing and responsive? Is it easy to change position? Or is it consistent and does he go around our curves and keeps our shape for a while? Does the mattress have a sweet and soft pillow feeling, or is it no longer neutral? Can we feel bays or zoned support? We do our best to describe exactly what it is to lie on each bed to help you determine if it suits you, because we know that you cannot test them all yourself.
Examine the layers of memory foam from the ultra nectar. You can see that the foam holds your shape and is slow to answer.
Temperature regulation
Given that everyone’s body is different – and many mattress marks exaggerate the cooling capacities of their beds – it can be difficult to objectively determine how hot or fresh bed is. For the most part, the mattresses sleep more neutral temperature than the cooling actively. Few beds correspond to the invoice of what our team would consider as actively cooling – even those with infused gel foams.
When we test mattresses, we detail the best of our capacities, the heat or the dorque of the mattress. Many external factors come into play here (such as the climate and the environment, the leaves, pajamas, etc.), so we test the beds in rooms with controlled temperature without leaves or bedding. Using our in -depth knowledge and experience, we analyze its construction and our materials and explain how they affect temperature. We are also able to offer a more in -depth analysis of temperature regulation in our long -term journals.
Movement isolation
The movement of movement of a bed describes how much it is angry or absorbs movement through the surface. This is a particularly important characteristic for light sleepers or those who share the bed with a partner, children or pets. We are testing movement isolation with a person lying on the bed while another turns and changes positions. Is the elongated person still screwed up with them or is the movement subtle? The second method consists in adjusting a glass of water on the edge and driving towards and far from it to see if the water stops or the glass falls.
A method to test the isolation of movement is with a glass of water.
On -board support
EDGE support is another important characteristic for those who share the bed. Testing the Edge support means that we assess how the mattress maintains its structure and its support around the perimeter. We sit down and go to the edge to see how the bed reacts. Does this cellar and give the feeling that we take off, or does it feel robust? We also push on the edges with our fists to observe the amount of edge on the pressure edge.
Special characteristics
Some brands include unique features in certain beds, such as cooling covers for hot sleepers or zoned support for those with back pain. We test and examine these additional characteristics to determine whether the complaints are up to the media threw and what type of sleeper would benefit the most.
