The billionaires are indignant after the self -proclaimed democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo, candidate of the Establishment, to become the Democratic candidate for the race for New York town hall.
Mamdani, 33, was, until recently, a member of the unknown state assembly and entered the democratic primary as an Opt, it is unlikely to overcome the recognition of the brand and the billionaire donors of the former Governor Cuomo. But its proposals – which included rent freeze, free bus dishes and grocery stores belonging to the city – finally resonated with New Yorkers who faced growing rents and lots of economic pain in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Mamdani almost won the appointment after Cuomo conceded the race this week, and because of his democratic socialist label and his controversial proposals, the billionaires rushed to paint the young politician as a threat to affairs, democracy and the Democratic party. Many Protestant billionaires have also lost financially, donating to “Fix The City”, a non-profit group which received around 25 million dollars of donations and spent charges in pro-cuomo advertisements and anti-Mamdani advertisements, in accordance Initiate of Business.
Here are some of the most noisy (and richest) voices attacking Mamdani after his historic victory.
Bill Ackman (net value of $ 8.09 billion)
One of the noisiest votes condemning Mamdani is the activist investor and the healing fund manager Bill Ackman. Ackman, who founded Pershing Square Capital Management, dropped on Mamdani in one of his characteristic messages on x.
In response to Mamdani’s victory, Funder Hedge said he and his allies would saturate the New York elections with donations to try to defeat him.
After calling Mamdani “young and charming”, Ackman criticized him for his comments on the New York police service and his proposals for rental and grocery freeness belonging to the city. He also said that a victory to the mayor of Mamdani would push large companies to leave New York.
“Socialism has no place in the economic capital of our country,” wrote Ackman on X. “The capacity in New York to offer services to the poor and needy, not to mention the average New Yorker, depends entirely on New York in a friendly environment and a place where rich residents are ready to spend 183 days and assume the associated tax burden.”
Ackman has also promised hundreds of millions of dollars in funds “would flock”, if the good candidate to oppose Mamdani appears.
Elon Musk (net of $ 368 billion)
Now essentially on the touch of government after having directed the Ministry of Efficiency of the Government of President Trump, the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, has always found the time to participate in the victory of Mamdani, even if he has retained major criticism.
In several comments reacting to other users Tweets on xMusk made known his skepticism about Mamdani. Musk commented an emoji who laughs in response to the position of another user criticizing Mamdani by saying “Queer liberation means finance the police.”
John Catsimatidis (net value of $ 4.5 billion)
The billionaire founder of the Gristedes grocery channel threatened to release the company from New York if Mamdani won the election of the mayor of New York. Catsimatidis threatened to move the company’s business offices to New Jersey.
“If the city of New York becomes a socialist, I will certainly do closure, I will sell, or will move or cross the locations of GristeDes,” said Catsimatidis Fox Business.
Catsimatidis also disputed Cuomo and the way he led his campaign.
“It is not a matter concluded, but Cuomo was really big because he tried to do what President Biden did and hid in the basement for two months,” said Catsimatidis Forbes.
However, the grocery channel’s magnate said Trump could be able to help the current New York mayor Eric Adams beat Mamdani in the general elections in November. Adams promised to function as independent.
Dan Loeb (of 3.2 billion dollars) net)
Dan Loeb, the founder billionaire of Hedge Fund Third Point, made a donation of $ 250,000 to support “Fix The City”, which supported Cuomo.
After the alleged victory of Mamdani, Loeb criticized the comment of New York governor Kathy Hochul, calling Mamdani’s campaign a “formidable basic coalition”.
“For anyone who had a doubt that our governor is a gut without any idea,” said Loeb in a job on X.
Loeb as cheeky declared that “it is officially in the summer of hot cumality”.
