I will not beat around the bush: “F1” looks rada like hell. Director Joseph Kosinski found producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Ehren Kruger after working with them on the fantastic “Top Gun: Maverick”, and it is obvious that they are looking to create something similar here in the world of Formula 1 races.
There are recognizable archetypes and familiar rhythms to films like this one – a charming head man playing a guy whose best days are ostensibly behind him, a hot interest in inspiration on the sidelines, young people from and the coming representing the modern way of doing things, etc. When he shoots all cylinders, there is a cathartic quality, satisfactory and handgun pump to this type of film creation which resembles a return to another era.
But the success of the monster of “Top Gun: Maverick” depended on audiences having a relationship of three decades with the original film and Jonesing for Tom Cruise to return to this role? Or “F1” will he be able to reproduce at least a few The status of an authentic phenomenon of this suite? It is a crucial question that Apple and Warner Bros. must arise at the moment, but if this trailer is an indication, it could have a nice summer blow on the hands.
Will Joseph Kosinski make his procus as a list of list A?
I have no doubt that Kosinski will be able to deliver with regard to the action in “F1” because he and the director of photography Claudio Miranda clearly have a penchant for piling up cameras in places that are difficult to reach and allow actors to make real stunts (improved by a healthy quantity of CG, no matter that someone tells you). But the cinematographic landscape is strewn with action films which are technically accomplished but which feel completely empty because the public does not care about its characters.
So, the real questions are therefore that Kosinski will be able to initiate something special by Pitt, an ultra-charismatic actor who, after the disappointment of the “wolves” of last year, has the impression that he could be dotted towards the edge of the auto-Paris? And Damson Idris, what will some audiences know from the FX series “Snowfall”, will be able to jump on the screen in the same way as Miles Teller and Glen Powell did in “Top Gun: Maverick”? There is more to direct than the creation of kinetic sets (we believe that Kosinski should have noted an appointment to the best Oscar director for “Maverick”), and “F1” will be an important test for Kosinski to see if he can perform on the Bruckheimer Playbook without an automatic public purchase. This helps that the Javier Bardem always sympathetic seems to have fun playing the figure of authority which gives inspiring speeches to his pilots; A performance like his could be exactly the type of thing that this film needs to give the film enough juice to cross the finish line.
Without forgetting that the film has something like a budget of $ 300 million for Apple, and falls in the middle of a somewhat risky exit slate for 2025 for Warner Bros. No pressure!
“F1” accelerated in theaters on June 27, 2025.
