Sporting confirmed an agreement with Chelsea for the transfers of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo.
Chelsea could pay up to 41.9 million pounds sterling for Quenda, who will be 18 years old in April, after having moved quickly to secure the future of the winger, who attracted the interest of Manchester United.
Quenda burst into the first sports team under the boss of United Ruben Amorim this season and will remain with the Portuguese club until 2026.
ESSUGO, a 20 -year -old defensive midfielder currently on loan with Las Palmas in Laliga, is expected to cost 18.5 million pounds sterling. He will join Chelsea this summer.
Quenda, who played as a winger and wing for Sporting, should sign a seven -year agreement with an option for an additional 12 months and has already passed his doctor.
The teenager would have chosen Chelsea in the middle of the interest of a number of other clubs and loved the fact that they wanted to give him time to mature and grow as a player.
ESSUGO has also already had his doctor and it is understood that Chelsea considers him as a ball winner who will obtain regular minutes under Enzo Maresca and will add depth to their team.
He became the youngest sporting player when he made his first team debut a week after being 16 years old in 2021.
Why Chelsea took the “Saka” Quenda
Naturally, a winger, it is easy to reach the Lamine Yamal, also on the left, when looking for a profile similar to Geovany Quenda. The Barcelona striker was also born in 2007.
“I understand the comparison, but Geo covers so much more space,” said Fabio Roque, Quenda’s youth coach in Sporting, explained Sky Sports As part of Following series.
“Geo is so demanding with himself in defensive moments. Close, recover quickly, win the defensive duels for his teammates. It reminds me of Bukayo Saka at the start of his career when he played back.”
The Arsenal before, says Roque, is the most precise comparison for Quenda. But he clearly shows that this does not tell the whole story of the teenager’s potential.
“There is only one Geovany Quenda,” said Roque. “He is different from any other player I have trained. He can create a brand on completely different football.
“We are talking about, with Lamine Yamal and Estevao Willian [set to join Chelsea in the summer of 2025]Probably the best players of this generation born in 2007. “
