A new fleet of autonomous taxis is ready to get into the streets this year, first deploying in Las Vegas.
The vehicles supported by Amazon are in preparation for ten years, and the company says that it wants to redefine transport.
“Our vision of the future is not as many people will have to buy their own car,” said Zoox co-founder Jesse Levinson.
Zoox’s mission is to transform what driving looks like. Their Robotaxis are autonomous vehicles that meet the rider’s experience.

“It is a very nice premium experience.” Sure, it’s consistent, it’s clean and it’s much more effective, “said Levinson.
Zoox Robotaxis does not look like standard cars. They have four seats inside the vehicle and the runners face each other, seated in rows of two.

“We really wanted to create a social experience. Before the cars, there were cars, and they were like that, because it is actually the natural way you want to interact with people, “said Levinson.
The runners will be able to call their taxi on an application. Zoox says that their rides will be at a competitive price on other existing offers.

“Over time, as technology becomes more omnipresent and less expensive, we will also be able to reduce the cost for our customers,” said Levinson.

To ensure that their robotaxies are safe, Zoox has tested a few hundred vehicles with the same technology and the same sensors.
“We tried to make it the most sure as possible vehicle, not only from the point of view of autonomy, but even just from the point of view of the passive accident. So, for example, we have this incredible inverted reverse airbag system which will envelop all passengers in the event of an accident, and it’s super sure,” said Levinson.

Although the tests are still in progress to ensure that robotaxis is still safe, an expert in autonomous vehicles says that autonomous cars could make public roads safer.

“It is a defensive driving style. It is intrinsically sure. The decisions that are made by our technology move a lot, much faster than the human brain,” said the vice-president of government and public affairs of Gatik, Rich Steiner.
