Borussia Dortmund’s winger Jamie Gittens could be available at a much lower price this summer if his team fails to obtain a place in the Champions League, according to German media reports.
Gittens, a Youth International England, had a mixed season. He started the strong campaign, impressive very early and attracted the attention of clubs, Chelsea considered enthusiastic.
At one point, Dortmund put him a high price of 100 million euros, hoping to repel interested contenders. However, its form has since dropped considerably, and its value could now be in question.
Although Dortmund has reached the Champions League quarter -finals, they are currently 10th in the Bundesliga, and the overall disappointing season has wreaked havoc on Gittens.
His performances were incoherent, in particular following the dismissal of Nuri Sahin and the appointment of Niko Kovac as a chief coach. Gittens, formerly considered a rising star – had trouble maintaining its start to the season.
If Dortmund does not guarantee football in the Champions League, they could face a difficult decision because they will have to generate funds, which means that the Liverpool target could leave.

Transfer Jamie Gittens: Dortmund Winger could be made available at a cheap price

While some reports have suggested that Dortmund could ask up to 80 million euros for the 20 -year -old winger, the Florian Prettenberg of Sky Germany suggested that Gittens could be available for a fraction of this price if BVB cannot reach a place in the Champions League.
However, Prettenberg did not explain exactly what “really cheap” means, leaving room for interpretation. In the end, the value of Gittens will strongly depend on its performance in the last weeks of the season.
If his crisis continues, Dortmund will be forced to adjust their expectations, and the price of 80 million euros, not to mention the 100 million euros that they initially hoped, can become unrealistic.
