The co-founder and CEO of Axios, Jim Vandehei, called on Tuesday the media inherited for breaking the confidence of the public in the last decade.
Speaking with Bari Weiss from the free press on her Podcast “Honestly”With his co-founder Mike Allen, Vandehei explained how he thought that traditional points of sale lost the confidence of the American people in three phases, thanks to the rise of Twitter, the coverage of the coronavirus pandemic and the “police finish” and the mental decline of President Biden.
“What happened with Twitter is – people now forget [since] These are many conservative voices, a lot of independent voices – he was a home for liberal group thought for a long time, “said Vandehei.” And it was the first time since I am in this company that I would put on a flow and I would see journalists in whom I trusted, that I admired, which makes the crystal clear on what side they were. You could say what they tweet, and you could say who they were following and followed them. “”

He continued: “Then came, in a way, the cocheal, funding the police, the words of words, where I think that many Americans were looking around” who does not suit me “. And the way she is covered does not associate with them.”
Vandehei described the media failure to properly cover the mental state of Biden the final straw for many.
“People said:” I can see with my two eyes that the guy seems quite old, probably does not seem to be able to be the president in the next quarter and yet there is not much coverage “, said Vandehei.
However, Vandehei ceased to completely condemn journalism, mentioning the journalist of Axios, Alex Thompson, for his continuous coverage of concerns concerning the age of Biden despite the story at the time. He also suggested that it is only “some bad apples” ruining the image of consumer media.

“It breaks my heart,” said Vandehei. “I hate it. I love journalism. I am a fierce defender of journalism. I believe that most journalists in most institutions are really trying to go to the approximation closest to the truth and to achieve it most of the time. I think it is some bad apples that make it look bad for everyone.”
