It is easy to miss in the middle of all hilarious writing and captivating game, but Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a show filled with nice names, especially for his favorite monster for fans of the week. From sweet sweetness to silent gentlemen, it is a spectacle filled with memorable monster monkers. In one case, however, it was an accident: when David Greenwalt wrote the episode “Reptile Boy”, he was very proud to offer “Machida” as the name of the main villain of the episode, not realizing that he was unconsciously inspired by Makita equipment used for the production of the series.
The origins of Buffy de Machida

Right now Buffy Episode, Machida is a particularly hungry demon who frequently receives human sacrifices from certain evil frat guys in exchange for wealth and power. David Greenwalt wrote this episode of memory, and he admitted to the commentary on the DVD that he had been initially impressed by himself for having found such a big demon name. However, he later felt silly when he realized that the show used the Makita brand equipment and that it probably served as a subconscious inspiration for the name of his demon.
While Buffy Noming GOOF would have been embarrassing for any writer, he was particularly pressing for the man behind Machida because Greenwalt is one of the greatest creative forces in the series. In addition to writing several episodes of BuffyHe was the co-executive producer of the program for seasons 1 and 2 before becoming executive producer for season 3. And he left this show to co-create the Angel Spinoff, making Greenwalt one of the biggest movers and Shakers in Buffyverse.
Quite funny, this old Buffy Bigwig had a kind of meeting with Machida Angel… Or, more precisely, the man behind Machida. In “Reptile Boy”, this memorable monster was played by Robin Atkin Downes, an English actor who returned to play a Pockla demon in the Angel Episode “Dead End”. This episode was written by David Greenwalt, allowing him to find the man behind the monster he had killed at the end of “Boy reptile”.

Most Buffy Fans are aware that even if Machida did not survive at the end of “reptile boy”, his mind lived through Avilas, a demon of the episode of season 7 “Help” which offered in the same way wealth and prosperity to those who provided human sacrifices. Despite the main similarities with Machida, this subsequent demon is not linked to the previous one. Interestingly, Machida was originally written to survive the events of “Reptile Boy” and Willow had a line on his possible return; If this alternative end had been shot, season 7 could have led Machida’s return instead of Avila, its duplicate dimestore.
Buffy The veteran David Greenwalt felt badly to accidentally name Machida after production equipment, but he should not fight … After all, there are only few names completely distinct to use for the many monsters of the show. And inspired by a name that you see countless times a week is really normal for the course, even for the best writers. However, we cannot prevent ourselves from laughing that Machida’s name, one of the best first bad guys, may have the most embarrassing Original story in everything Buffy history.
