A new Games Institute of the University of Texas in Austin will help to position students for careers in the fast -growing video game industry.
UT Austin Moody College of Communication Will welcome the Karch Gaming Institute, which will devote itself to shape the next generation of creative leaders in the game industry thanks to a generous gift from Matt Karch, CEO of Interactive saberA global video game developer and publisher on behalf of the Karch family.
Helped by the $ 5 million gift, the Karch Gaming Institute will teach students all aspects of the digital game industry, from concept to distribution to the convergence of the game with film, broadcasting and other media. Students will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to prosper as leaders in the most profitable sector of entertainment.

According to the Entertainment Software Association, the American video game industry has generated more than $ 100 billion in annual economic impact in 2024 while supporting nearly 350,000 American jobs. While the game industry continues to grow quickly and develop, the Institute will go beyond traditional education, offering students a complete program that combines rich history, cultural context, ethics and the art of narration in games with practical and practical courses focused on trade flows and industry development.

With the support of the Karch Gaming Institute, Moody College develops courses with the initial aim of creating a minor to focus on the company and the production of digital games. The Institute will offer the first two courses, “Business of Gaming: From Concept to Console” and “Gaming Use Lab Fundamentals” this fall for any UT student. The concept console concept course will feature guest speakers from various Departments and UT careers from the game industry and will include practical exercises such as concept pitch techniques. The laboratory course of use will teach students how this type of laboratory is used in the industry. As part of the course, students will have access to a game not yet to be used as a case study.
The members of the faculty of the Moody College will supervise the program and instruct the courses in partnership with teachers of the College of Fine Arts and the College of Natural Sciences.
