Melissa Andreatta, assistant coach of Australia Matildas, was announced as the new Scottish women’s head coach.
Andreatta is the permanent replacement of Pedro Martinez Losa, who was dismissed in December after failing to qualify for Euro 2025.
The former Australian coach of A-League is expected to take over in time for the match of the League of Scottish Nations against Austria in late May.
The 46 -year -old man has a CV extended in the women’s match and supported Tony Gustavsson in the fourth place in Australia at the Women’s World Cup in 2023 and at the Olympic Games from last year in Paris.
Andreatta said: “I am absolutely delighted to lead the Scottish national women’s team in a fascinating new era.
“It is a real honor to join such a solid program that you can see on the talent of the senior team, which crosses all age groups. This testifies to the work that has already been done by Michael Mcardle and the team.
“The future is definitely brilliant and with my extended coach, my development of talents and my major experience in the tournament, my goal is to support players and staff to reach their full potential.
“The ambition is to bring Scotland back to a coherent qualification and with the team in a transition period, it is an ideal opportunity to start building towards this future.”
Scottish women have reached a major tournament for the last time when the Shelley Kerr team presented itself at the 2019 World Cup in France. It was a second successive appearance in the final.
Martinez Losa was appointed after the Kerr team missed the next European championships, the Spaniard also losing a World Cup dam match against the Republic of Ireland in 2022.
Scotland then lost against Finland in the match for the 2025 tournament, the team also failing in its quest to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.
Michael Mcardle – who had worked in close collaboration alongside Martinez Losa in his role as chief of female elite football – was in temporary team of the team.
It is understood that Mcardle held the work, but after four defeats in his four games as an acting chief coach, he returns to his previous role.
Ian Maxwell, CEO of Scottish FA, added: “First of all, I would like to thank Michael for his professionalism throughout this process and for intensifying and taking care of the national team on an interim base after the departure of Pedro.
“The fact that the last list of candidates included three different continents shows the broad appearance of the management of the national Scottish female team. Melissa has provided a width of different experiences at all levels of the female game in Australia. She is a precious member of the Matildas coaches staff, but also has the responsibility of developing elite youth players in a respected performance system.
“I am sure to speak on behalf of the players when I say that we all wait impatiently Melissa to start her new role. I also reiterate my thanks to Michael, who will have a central role to play to help Melissa and the national female teams to succeed in the future.”
